Enhancing the Rhombus Access Control Experience

The Rhombus Engineering team has been hard at work delivering a series of Access Control enhancements designed to provide even greater flexibility and security, all while reducing the administrative burden. Whether you're managing a single location or an enterprise portfolio, these updates will have you wanting to wave hello to modern building management.
DR40 Doorbell Call
Never Miss a Visitor Again
Your front desk staff can't always be at their desk, but your business can't afford to miss important deliveries, client visits, or service calls. The DR40 Video Intercom now features "Call Phone" functionality that bridges this gap. With a few simple clicks in the console settings, customers can set up a “Call Phone” action for the DR40 Commercial Video Intercom. When someone presses the doorbell, the system automatically calls a specified phone number, enabling two-way audio communication and optional door unlock via “9” on the dial pad—giving your team the power to respond from anywhere.

First-In Rules & Flex Schedules
Smarter Access That Adapts to Your Workflow
First-In Rules ensure door unlock schedules or badge entries only occur once authorized, preventing doors from unlocking before designated criteria are met. No more doors unlocking without an employee on premise or before a designated supervisor is on site. Rules can apply to any or all doors at a location, be satisfied by badge entry or remote unlock, and reset nightly, by shift, or manually as needed.
Flex Schedules allow users to easily lock or unlock doors without disrupting regular schedules. Leaving early for the day or just needing to step out for a bit? With Flex Schedules you can lock and unlock doors from the mobile app or web console with a couple of taps, knowing that come tomorrow, your lock schedule will resume it's normal cadence.

Proximity Unlock for Rhombus Key
Remote Access within a Radius
For enhanced security, organizations can now require that individuals are within a certain distance of their building before allowing the use of remote unlock. With this feature, if a phone is compromised or lost across town, it's useless for gaining access to your facility. You maintain the convenience your team loves while eliminating a critical vulnerability.
Enable in two simple steps:
- Ensure the door is positioned on the map.
- Enable geofence in the door's remote unlock settings, and choose a distance.
Users will be unable to remote unlock from the Rhombus Key app if they are outside of that distance.

Keypad Door Reader
Flexible Authentication to Fit Your Needs
Not everyone needs a permanent credential. Temporary workers, contractors, delivery personnel, and shared facility users often need simple, time-limited access—and now you can provide it without the administrative burden of issuing and collecting physical credentials.
For customers that want to allow access to their facilities via the simplicity of a PIN pad, they now can with Rhombus Keypad Door Reader. This feature allows organizations to distribute PIN codes to specific people, eliminating the need to give mobile credentials or keycards. This is ideal for shared spaces or facilities that require 3rd party access.

Rhombus DC20M and Altronix Trove

Earlier this year, Rhombus launched the DC20M which is a stand-alone module of our DC20 (no enclosure or battery). With this stand-alone module, it’s now possible to embed it in 3rd party enclosures including the Altronix Trove.
With this partnership, customers can configure a system based on their deployment, including support for up to 12 doors within a single enclosure. If you’re interested in using Altronix with Rhombus, simply navigate to their Trove Design Tool to start configuring your ideal system today.
